Q & A

To access SKM E-Learning’s resources and connect with teachers and peers, each E-Learning Student  must have a computer with a modern operating system (Windows 10 or later, or Mac OS 10.7 or later) as well as a reliable browser (for example, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer 11). A broadband internet connection is also essential for clear communication, failing which, much of the teaching and learning will be jeopardised.

The school consults a professional for technical support for navigation or technical queries, as well as subscribes to a learning plaform that can guide students to access an array of online resources including textbooks, encyclopeadias, documents and videos.

The school works hand-in hand with learning platform known as Learn Dash. It complements the programmes made available through SKM E-Learning by providing a plaform for student participation in their classrooms as they share knowledge of lessons learnt through a network of peers, educators and the global community.

As E-Learning students work through their lessons, teachers can monitor their progress, frequently remaining in contact, to ensure that lessons are presented or repeated where necessary before graduating to higher levels. Study plans are made according to the compentency of the student as well as area of interest. As students are observed through submitted assignments in various forms, teachers gain a real insight into what learning has taken place students have gained

Parents play a key role in facilitating the connection between students and the school, depending on the independence of their children. Younger preschoolers (3 to 6 years old) as well as lower elementary students (6 to 9 years old) may require some support during real-time online class sessions and assistance in completing offline work. Typically, for the older upper elementary students and beyond (10 years and above) will be able to work towards higher levels of independence and discipline through embracing and becoming more responsible accountable for their school work and self-regulated behaviour.

For busy parents, they will be able to see how much time their children are spending on each subject or topic, as well as their progression through the learning materials. Formal parents’ meetings online or physical meetings are carried out twice-yearly or on a needs’ basis to enable parents to discuss their children’s progress with their teachers.

The school is aware of and empathises with the limitations that prevent access to good quality education. E-Learning allow students (with the assistance of parents where so advised or required) to plan study time throughout school hours and, where necessary, the rest of the day, teaching students how to balance study and work with family and social commitments. This in turn promotes self-discipline, respponsibility and accountability, executive functions that will help them on in later life.
